BROWNBACK BACKS FITZGERALD AT BIPARTISAN FUNDRAISER

US Senator Sam Brownback was the featured draw during a fundraiser for Steve Fitzgerald, candidate for Kansas Senate, last Thursday at Granny's Restaurant in the Legend's Village West. Addressing the filled party room of supporters from both parties and from both Wyandotte and Leavenworth counties Senator Brownback endorsed Fitzgerald saying: "Steve's the sort of candidate and leader we need in the Kansas Senate and I am expecting all of you to work hard to get him there." Fitzgerald welcomed the endorsement of Senator Brownback, adding it to the endorsement he received last month from US Senator Pat Roberts as well as the backing from the current 5th District Senator, Democrat Mark Gilstrap.

In fact, with Gilstrap in attendance at the function Senator Brownback acknowledged Fitzgerald's bi-partisan support in the district and praised Gilstrap's twelve Kansas Senate years fighting and upholding family values.

Fitzgerald's campaign staff quickly staged the fundraiser to take advantage of Senator Brownback's availability. "Anytime a US Senator is willing to spend time helping a campaign it is a big deal." stated Fitzgerald. "We dropped everything to make this work. I thought that he might spend a half hour or so with us but he stayed for over two hours and spoke with everyone individually as well as addressing the crowd. It is a great honor and privilege to have the support of someone who has done so much for Kansas."

"Senator Brownback has served Kansas extremely well first as Secretary of Agriculture in Kansas and then in Washington, DC as a US Representative in 1994 and then as a Senator. We look forward to getting him back to Kansas when this term is up in two years." said Fitzgerald. Senator Brownback has a "self-imposed term limit" of two terms which will be up in 2010.

Senator Brownback's endorsement continues the streak of key political, business, and personal endorsements Mr. Fitzgerald has received as his campaign draws more and more interest as a key Kansas battleground Senate race.
