Gilstrap Endorses Fitzgerald

Democrat Senator Mark Gilstrap has endorsed Republican Steve Fitzgerald for the Kansas Senate.

Fitzgerald said “I am honored to have Senator Gilstrap’s endorsement. Senator Gilstrap has served the 5th District honorably and well. He has represented the values of the voters in the district for twelve years, accounting for his long tenure there and we share those values.”

“Unfortunately, the Governor is interfering in the district and has engineered the defeat of Senator Gilstrap in a primary that saw very low turn-out. The Governor’s people from outside the district searched around and eventually found a local Democrat who would take orders from Topeka rather than represent the people. By providing exceptional monetary support and using the coercive powers of her office the governor got her candidate nominated over Senator Gilstrap.”

Wyandotte Democrat Senator Chris Steineger expressed the feelings of many at the time when he courageously denounced the governor’s attempt to unseat Gilstrap and said that Americans value their freedoms and do not appreciate being dictated to.

Fitzgerald said “I believe that the people of the 5th district want and deserve vigorous representation in Topeka and resent, as Senator Steineger says, being dictated to. I am taking my campaign to the people because I know that ultimately the voters of the district are the boss that I must answer to and serve.”
