LEAVENWORTH - The Kansas Republican Assembly (KRA) evaluated this
year's election candidates and have overwhelmingly endorsed Steve
Fitzgerald for the Kansas Senate District 5 race. District 5,
covering the key northeast Kansas areas of Wyandotte, Piper,
Leavenworth-Lansing, Basehor, and Bonner Springs is a battleground
district race this election cycle. The seat is currently held by a
12-year incumbant that KRA members believe Fitzgerald will unseat in
November.
KRA Executive Director, Charlotte Esau stated: "It took a minimum
2/3's vote in favor of a candidate for our members to prefer anyone
for a given seat." Based on Fitzgerald's impressive credentials and
his 2004 race where he came within a scant 1% of defeating his
well-financed opponent KRA members believe Fitzgerald can win the
district this year.
Fitzgerald is delighted by the early endorsement stating: "Having
the confidence and backing of an active statewide organization like
the KRA, whose members are real Kansans coming from all walks of life,
is a real honor. I'm gratified and will work hard not only to live up
to their endorsement but also if elected to represent their core
values--Kansas values in our state Senate."
The KRA is a 10-year old organization comprised mainly of traditional
Kansans working to build a powerful, enduring coalition of
economic and social conservatives. The KRA is delighted to see
citizens like Fitzgerald getting involved in the public arena. And
like Fitzgerald, the KRA encourages all Republicans to put their time,
talents and treasure behind candidates that KRA members endorse.
