WYANDOTTE - Sunday was the annual Leavenworth Road Association Parade and capped a busy day of a busy week for Steve Fitzgerald, 5th Senate District candidate.
"The annual Leavenworth Road Association Parade is the last, longest, and largest parade of the local parades in the district and showcases the neighborhood's spirit. It's always a lot of fun and it's also really important since it gives candidates like me the chance to meet and greet a lot of voters at one time and for them to give me the once over. Personal outreach and contact with voters is really important to me and it capped a really big week for me meeting voters and groups of all types and sizes-- but this was the biggest."
Fitzgerald met with the Home School Association on Tuesday, The Linwood Forum on Wednesday, campaigned in Wyandotte County going door-to-door and one-on-one with voters Thursday, Friday, and
Saturday, attended the Leavenworth High School Homecoming festivities and football game Friday night, the Leavenworth Road Association Pancake Breakfast Sunday Morning, the St Joseph's Church Bazaar Sunday afternoon, and the parade after that.
"It's a grueling schedule but that's what it takes." says Fitzgerald. "If you want to properly represent the people of this district you have to go to where they are and participate in what they do. A Senator is not appointed, a lobbyist, or some high muckety-muck to be served. A Senator is the people's servant and should earn their trust and their vote so that when they are elected they fight for them in Topeka--- not lobbyists, not the Governor. Just them." "I think I'm doing exactly that and I'll know exactly who is hiring me, who I represent, and who I'm accountable to."
