LEAVENWORTH - With a commanding lead in his US Senate race, Republican Pat Roberts endorsed Steve Fitzgerald as THE candidate for the battleground 5th Kansas Senate district race of Wyandotte and Leavenworth counties.
Senator Roberts' endorsement is especially significant as he doesn't "blanket" endorse candidates, even those of his own party. As the senior Republican in the state Senator Roberts felt it was especially important this year to show his public support of strong, state-level leaders like Fitzgerald running in key districts.
Fitzgerald responded to the top tier endorsement saying "I'm honored and certainly grateful. Senator Roberts is the model for anyone aspiring to public life. He's a hard working and well respected Kansan who's served his country as a US Marine and continues to serve his country and Kansas as a key member of the US Senate. Senator Roberts endorsement is especially reassuring to me and the Kansans of this district that have the same beliefs that he and I have."
The Roberts campaign made the formal endorsement today joining a long and growing list of Fitzgerald endorsers, Republican, Democrat, and independent alike, that want to see a forward thinking leader get some things done for this district and state in the majority Republican led Senate.
